Golden Leaf Finalist!

Yay!  I found out on Sunday, that my book, SCENT OF MAGIC is a finalist in the Golden Leaf award given by the New Jersey Romance Writers.  If the name sounds familiar, that is because I've won this award before for STORM GLASS and TOUCH OF POWER.

When I told my husband about this honor, he made a crack about not seeing the nomination on the news that night.  I didn't think it was funny.  I thought that was being rather jaded - "oh, just another nomination, no big deal"  type thing.  Well, I don't take anything for granted and to, me, being nominated or winning an award is still as exciting as it was when I first started publishing.

After 21 years of marriage, he picked up on my...disappointment in his reaction. (Yes, it took over 20 years to train him ;)  He brought me flowers and made me a card.  Except he couldn't remember the exact name of the award, just that it had something to do with nature.

Here's a picture of the flowers and card:

I like the sound of the Pink Daffodil award - I want to use it as a prize for something but I'm not sure what.  Any ideas?

And here's what the Golden Leaf looks like:

  1. Yay you! And hey--an award that actually comes with a trophy! I won a bunch of writing contests in my early years, but the most I got was a framed piece of paper...

And nice save from the hubby :-) I like the new award name too. Maybe we should start our own online contest. (Of course, then we'd have to read all the entries...nevermind.)

  2. Congratulations! That is amazing.

It could be the name of a poison, hehe. Totally misleading, it sounds like something that Valek would love. Or, it could be a medicinal problem? I'm sure you could come up with something -though a poison is still my favourite suggestion.

  5. Congrats on being a finalist!

I think that the Pink Daffodil should be awarded to those who give thoughtful gifts for the wrong event/occasion. ;)

  6. Congrats! You totally deserve it!

To me, a pink daffodil sounds like a really rare cure/antidote.

  7. Congratulations!!! How exciting! And how cute of your husband!! Pink Daffodil! It's a relief to see that my family isn't the only one to still hand-make their cards! I'll have to show you the one my father made for my birthday two years ago - at 27 he still colored me a unicorn under a rainbow!

What an honor!!! You writing is absolutely worth the award!!!! I hope you win!!!! :)

  8. Hello,

My name is Maya Willard-Stepan. I've read all of your books, and I can't get over how perfectly true it is the way you word things. My goal for 2014 is to publish my first book. I'm twelve, and live in British Columbia, Canada. I know that you don't have time to look at everyone else's stories, so I'm not going to even ask. I just waned you to know that you inspire me, and I hope that someday I will be able to write half as good as you.

    Sincerely your fan,
    Maya.
